Rare Hadronic and Radiative Penguin B Decays at BaBar

    Get PDF
We report recent results in the study of rare hadronic and radiative penguin decays of B mesons. These results are based on a sample of 23 million B B-bar pairs collected by the BaBar Collaboration at the SLAC PEP-II e+e- B Factory.Comment: 7 pages, 2 figures; Contributed to the Proceedings of the 5th KEK Topical Conference: Frontiers In Flavor Physics (KEKTC5), 20-22 Nov 2001, Tsukuba, Ibaraki, Japa

Search for Contact Interactions in the Dimuon Final State at ATLAS

The Standard Model has been successful in describing many fundamental aspects of particle physics. However, there are some remaining puzzles that are not explained within the context of its present framework. We discuss the possibility to discover new physics in the ATLAS Detector via a four-fermion contact interaction, much in the same way Fermi first described Weak interactions. Using a simple ratio method on dimuon events, we can set a 95% C.L. lower limit on the effective scale Lambda = 7.5 TeV (8.7 TeV) for the constructive Left-left Isoscalar Model of quark compositeness with 100 pb^-1 (200 pb^-1) of data at sqrt{s} = 10 TeV.Comment: To be published in the proceedings of DPF-2009, Detroit, MI, July 2009, eConf C09072

    B Physics at SLD

We review recent BB physics results obtained in polarized e+e−e^+ e^- interactions at the SLC by the SLD experiment. The excellent 3-D vertexing capabilities of SLD are exploited to extract precise \bu and \bd lifetimes, as well as measurements of the time evolution of Bd0−Bd0ˉB^0_d - \bar{B^0_d} mixing.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figure

    ATLAS Style Guide

This is a compendium of rules, recommendations, information and advice for writing papers and notes within the ATLAS Collaboration at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. It covers what to include in the paper, and some general guidelines and specific points about writing a scientific paper. There are sections on the use of English (though it is not a guide to grammar), punctuation, and typography. Advice about the use of LATEX is also given

Charged rho meson production in neutrino-induced reactions at E_nu = 10 GeV

The neutrinoproduction of charged ρ\rho mesons on nuclei and nucleons is investigated for the first time at moderate energies (≈ \approx 10 GeV), using the date obtained with SKAT bubble chamber. No strong nuclear effects are observed in ρ+\rho^+ and ρ−\rho^- production. The fractions of charged and neutral pions originating from ρ\rho decays are obtained and compared with higher energy data. From analysis of the obtained and available data on ρ+\rho^+ and K∗+K^{*+}(892) neutrinoproduction, the strangeness suppression factor in the quark string fragmentation is extracted: λs=0.18±0.03\lambda_s = 0.18\pm0.03. Estimations are obtained for cross sections of quasiexclusive single ρ+\rho^+ and coherent ρ+\rho^+ neutrinoproduction on nuclei. The estimated coherent cross section σρ+coh\sigma_{\rho^+}^{coh} = (0.29±0.16)⋅10−38\pm0.16)\cdot 10^{-38} cm2^2 is compatible with theoretical predictions.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure

B→η(ηâ€Č)K(π)B \to \eta(\eta') K(\pi) in the Standard Model with Flavor Symmetry

The observed branching ratios for B→Kηâ€ČB\to K \eta' decays are much larger than factorization predictions in the Standard Model (SM). Many proposals have been made to reconcile the data and theoretical predictions. In this paper we study these decays within the SM using flavor U(3) symmetry. If small annihilation amplitudes are neglected, one needs 11 hadronic parameters to describe B→PPB\to PP decays where PP can be one of the π\pi, KK, η\eta and ηâ€Č\eta' nonet mesons. We find that existing data are consistent with SM with flavor U(3) symmetry. We also predict several measurable branching ratios and CP asymmetries for B→K(π)η(ηâ€Č)B \to K (\pi) \eta(\eta'), η(ηâ€Č)η(ηâ€Č)\eta(\eta')\eta(\eta') decays. Near future experiments can provide important tests for the Standard Model with flavor U(3) symmetry.Comment: 13 pages, 4 table

    The Apollo ATCA Platform

We have developed a novel and generic open-source platform - Apollo - which simplifies the design of custom Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) blades by factoring the design into generic infrastructure and application-specific parts. The Apollo "Service Module" provides the required ATCA Intelligent Platform Management Controller, power entry and conditioning, a powerful system-on-module (SoM) computer, and flexible clock and communications infrastructure. The Apollo "Command Module" is customized for each application and typically includes two large field-programmable gate arrays, several hundred optical fiber interfaces operating at speeds up to 28 Gbps, memories, and other supporting infrastructure. The command and service module boards can be operated together or independently on the bench without need for an ATCA shelf.Comment: Submitted to the Proceedings for TWEPP 201

The Proton Spin and Flavor Structure in the Chiral Quark Model

After a pedagogical review of the simple constituent quark model and deep inelastic sum rules, we describe how a quark sea as produced by the emission of internal Goldstone bosons by the valence quarks can account for the observed features of proton spin and flavor structures. Some issues concerning the strange quark content of the nucleon are also discussed.Comment: 59 pages with table of contents, Lecture delivered at the Schladming Winter School (March 1997), to be published by Springer-Verlag under the title "Computing Particle Properties" (eds.
